5 Different Doors For Your Shower Enclosure

Although your shower is primarily installed for a practical purpose, there is no reason why you can’t design it the way you want to. Of course, there aren’t too many ways that this can be achieved, though one aspect that can be alternated for both practical and stylish reasons is your shower enclosure’s door.

Before we get into the topic of different types of shower enclosures for your bathroom, it’s important to understand what we are referencing. Often referred to as a shower cubicle, a shower enclosure usually comes with one or more glass panels that enclose the primary shower area from allowing the splashing of water. These glass panels often act as the door for access, though some shower enclosures don’t have a door as part of its design. That being said, for reference, this blog is solely based upon the five different doors for your square shower enclosure.

  • Hinged

Hinged shower doors are perhaps the most popular types available, as they offer a simplistic design that is also suitably functional. It operates by swinging in one direction, often outwards into the bathroom, on hinges, just like a traditional door.

Typically, these doors are better suited for larger bathrooms, primarily because the door opens into the bathroom, which will require additional space to fully open. They are very effective for their purpose, as it fully blocks any water from being able to escape from the enclosure.

  • Pivot

Like hinged doors, pivot doors are ideal if you are looking for easy access for your shower. That being said, one of the key features of why pivot doors are so popular is because they can swing 180 degrees on the pivot, meaning the door can open both inwards and outwards of the shower enclosure.

The size of your enclosure and bathroom will influence how you prefer to open the door. For instance, having the door open outwards will make the room look cramped, but opening the door inwards in a smaller shower will significantly reduce the entrance space available.

  • Bi-fold

If you are keen on an option that doesn’t open up into the rest of the bathroom, then bi-fold doors may be one of the best choices available. They operate by folding in on themselves to create the entrance space, though this does slightly reduce the space available as not all doors fold completely side by side.

  • Sliding

For those that are keen on saving space, whilst also introducing a modern feel into the bathroom, then a sliding shower door is ideal. The door itself slides behind a fixed glass panel, which enabled access to the shower, which even then doesn’t take up much space even if has been left open. Although we are currently discussing square enclosures, sliding doors are somewhat one of the most popular choices for curved showers for a streamlined look.

  • In-swing

When bathroom space is limited, an in-swing door is a practical choice. Operating on a concealed track, the shower door swings inwards with only a margin portion of the door reaching outside of the shower enclosure. The only downside depends on your shower enclosure design, and whether there is enough room for you to enter the enclosure and then close the door behind you.
